Ararat Yeghishe Zakaryan

Founder and rector of Ararat University in Armavir, Member of 008 scientific board of Higher Certifying Commission of Republic of Armenia, doctor of economy, professor, academician of RAE Academy.

• Born in 1950.

• 1967 – Graduated from high school in Armavir village.

• 1971 – Graduated from geography department of geographical and historical faculty of Yerevan Khachatur Abovyan Pedagogical Institute, as well as from the post-graduated courses.

• 1971–1972 – Worked in high school of Arevik village as head of the teaching department.

• 1972–1973 – Served in Soviet army, has degree of senior officer.

• 1973–1981 – Worked in No 3 high school of Armavir as head of the teaching department.

• 1981–1993 – Worked in “Laboratory for technical and economical researches” of Yerevan Research Institution of Stones and Silicates as engineer, later was selected as junior research worker, research worker, senior research worker and head of laboratory on competitive base.

• 1986 – Defended Ph. D. thesis in Leningrad (currently Saint-Petersburg) and granted the scientific degree of “candidate of geographical sciences.”

• 1991 – Granted the scientific degree of senior research worker.

• 1992 – In Armavir city established the first university of the region.

• 1997 – Established and published “Jah” weekly of university.

• 1998 – Granted the scientific degree of doctor of economy, later – scientific degree of professor.

• 1998 – Selected as a full member, academician of ??? Academy .

• 1999 – Member of 008 scientific board of Higher Certifying Commission of Republic of Armenia (in Economical Institution named after Mikayel Kotanyan of National Academy of Sciences of Republic of Armenia).

• 2002–2004 – Selected and worked as the mayor of Armavir city.

• He is an author of more than 60 scientific studies, 6 scientific monographs and number of educational and publicistic articles. He has lectured in international, Soviet and local scientific conferences.

• Under A. Zakaryan's supervision more than ten Ph. D. dissertations have been defended. Currently he supervises researches of many post-graduated students.

• A. Zakaryan is also fond of poetry. In 1996 his poetry book “By Vocation of Heart” was published and his next collection “Out of Mirage” will be published soon.

During passed 15 years the University had more than 700 alumni; most of them work by their own profession.

Currently the education on credit system has been fulfilled by educational degree of baccalaureate. It includes specialties “Jurisprudence,” “Finances and tax,” “Elementary school pedagogy and methods,” “Armenian language and literature.”

Staff of the lecturers includes    40 famous academicians, professors, senior lecturers.

Total number of students is    300

The University possesses its own library and reading room (with around 9500 units of contemporary specialized and fiction literature), furnished language laboratory for 20 students, two computer auditoriums with access to Internet, biological and medical, historical, musical auditoriums, as well as other technical tools for organizing the education on high level.

The University has tradition of organizing scientific conferences, discussions, research efforts, cultural and other events annually.

The University systematically publishes manuals, educational and methodological books, and scientific monographs.

Scientific conferences are being organized annually for students and teaching staff; links are established with local and external universities.

The Institution has a scientific union, student council, board of criminality and clinical issues

The University functions in a four-floor separated building on Nalbandyan 35a address in Armavir possessing territory of 0.5 hectares.
