The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is pleased to announce that it is soliciting nominations for outstanding foreign students worldwide to participate in the 2011 International Fulbright Science and Technology Program . Grantees will be enrolled for Ph.D. study at top U.S. universities in the fields of science, technology, or engineering for academic year 2011-2012. Last year's competition for this program produced an extremely talented group of candidates whom leading U.S. scientists on the selection panels deemed outstanding. The International Fulbright Science and Technology award is for Ph.D. study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering. The award is designed to be among the most prestigious international scholarships in science and technology. Approximately 45 awards will be granted worldwide for candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in scientific fields. Each country may nominate up to two principal nominees and one alternate nominee .
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be citizens of Armenia and must apply through the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section in Armenia. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree before August 1, 2011, and be proficient in English with a recent TOEFL score (or equivalent) of 580 or higher. The 18 eligible fields include: 1. Aeronautics and aeronautics and astronomics/ aeronautical engineering 2. Agriculture (theoretical or research-based focus only) 3. Astronomy/planetary sciences 4. Biology 5. Biomedical engineering 6. Chemistry 7. Computer sciences/engineerin g 8. Energy 9. Engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum) 10. Environmental science/engineering 11. Geology/earth and atmospheric sciences 12. Information sciences and systems (engineering focus only) 13. Materials science/engineering 14. Mathematics 15. Neurosciences 16. Oceanography 17. Public health (theoretical research focus only) 18. Physics For 2010, agriculture was included as a new field. While agriculture tends to be a fairly applied field of study, those wishing to pursue theoretical and research-based study in such areas as entomology, plant biology, plant pathology , and soil science are eligible for this Award. The Office of Academic Exchange Programs (ECA/A/E) will fund grants for up to three years for this Award . After three years, U.S. universities will provide funding of the remaining expenses toward completion of a Ph.D. IIE will exclusively handle student placement.
